The Battle of The Bridge in Pisa

The last Sunday of June is a very important event in Pisa. Is the end of the Pisan June. This importan day is celebrate by two important events: The Battle of the Bridge (”Il Gioco del Ponte”) and the historical parade around the city with over 700 partecipants.
What is the Battle of the Bridge?
Is a historical battle betwen the two banks of the river: Mezzogiorno and Tramontana.
The Tramontana side is the est part of Pisa and is the zone of Borgo Stretto, Piazza dei cavalieri and more. In this part you find six “team”: Satiri, Santa Maria, Mattaccini, S. Francesco, Calci, San Michele.
The Mezzogiorno reperesent the other bank of the river (Corso italia, Via San Martino, San Antonio) and again you find six “team”: Delfini, Dragoni, S. Marco, S. Antonio, Leoni, San Martino.
The name’s teams came from the medieval age.
Victory goes to the team that conquers the Bridge by pushing the cart and all the opponents to the opposite end of the sliding rail.
